========================= Date: 01/26/07 9:59 AM ========================= Dear Detective Hanna, I just spoke with the coroner's office and Inez said Barbara had spoken with you yesterday. She said they needed your authorization to release any information. Ralph Denton, an attorney in Las Vegas, said I should request the coroner's autopsy report and investigative/toxicology reports for my mother. He said a private investigator would need information, such as the time of death, to help him conduct an investigation. What type of information will you allow the coroner to release to me? Sincerely, Keith Sargent ======================================= Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2007 13:51:33 -0800 From: "Larry Hanna" To: "keith sargent" Subject: Re: Coroner's Reports ======================================= Nothing specific to the cause / mechanic of your mother's death. The official time of death would be when she was found and the coroner pronounced death. The actual time of death, since she wasn't discovered immediately, is speculative and crucial in conducting an interview with a possible suspect. Nothing that would pollute such an interview will be released. ====================== >>> keith sargent 01/26/07 7:12 PM >>> ===================== Dear Detective Hanna, Thank you for your response. I appreciate it, but I guess I need help in understanding your reasoning better. Am I missing something? You and Det. Rogers have plenty of other cases to work on, I know. However, you have had this case for over one year, have no suspects, no leads, haven't worked on the case in months, and have no plans to work on it in the future, unless something breaks. How does keeping this information to yourselves benefit the non-going investigation, when allowing me to see this information and possibly hire a private detective to investigate, could actually lead to the break that would help the case? Sincerely, Keith Sargent ========================= Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2007 07:18:10 -0800 From: "Larry Hanna" To: "keith sargent" Subject: Re: Coroner's Reports ========================= Mr. Sargent, This is exactly why we hesitate to respond to your e-mails. Do me a favor: Go find another homicide detective and ask them how much information they would release on a case. And your assumption we have done nothing on your mother's case in months is just that, an assumption. We don't run and report everything we do to you, it just generates more work responding to further inquiries and explaining why we do what. Good day. ========================================== Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2007 18:00:05 -0800 (PST) From: "keith sargent" Mobile Alert Subject: Make Me Eat My Words To: "Larry Hanna" =========================================== Detective Hanna, You were right, I did make an assumption that you and Detective Rogers hadn't worked on the Sargent case in months. Make me eat my words. Make me feel bad for accusing you of not working on my mother's case. Make me feel stupid for assuming you haven't done anything in months. Make me feel so bad I will apologize and ask for your understanding. Make me see how wrong I was. I want to be wrong. I want to feel bad. I want to feel stupid. I want to apologize to you and Detective Rogers. All I ask is for you to tell me something significant that you and he have done in the last few months to move this case forward. Have you uncovered any leads? Have you questioned any suspects? Is the case closer to being solved? If you solve this case and prove my assumptions wrong, I will call the newspapers and tell them how I had underestimated your abilities, how you solved a case that looked hopeless, and how you worked hard even though I was certain you weren't. I will apologize in print for my lack of faith, and accusing you of bungling the case. I'll make you look good, and make myself look like an idiot. I look forward to that day.
